As the winter season rolls around, on every driver’s mind is what that means for their daily commute. We all want to do our best to keep us and our passengers safe while on the road in the blustery weather conditions that winter throws at us. Here are a few tips from us at Buff Whelan Chevrolet on how to prep your car for the winter months.
Check the Liquids
Prior to getting on the road in wintery conditions, it is important to make sure you are doing everything you can to defend your car. Check the following levels to help keep everyone safe:
- Antifreeze: Antifreeze prevents your engine from freezing, so this is very important in the frigid winter months. You can easily add more if needed.
- Wiper fluid: Similar to antifreeze, this is easy to add if needed. In the winter months, you should use special winter windshield wiper fluid which will not freeze and help optimize visibility.
- Oil: Similar to how there is a winter version of windshield wiper fluid, there is a winter-friendly version of oil, which will help keep your engine running smoothly and reliably in the cold months. Select it when you get your oil changed before winter.
Improve the Tires
Lastly, make sure your tires are in good condition with lots of tread, and stash some extra jackets and snacks in the car in case you get stuck in some gnarly winter traffic.
