You don’t look at a pickup truck and think “fuel efficiency,” but the all-new Chevy Silverado might just turn that old gas-guzzling image of the pickup on its head. The fuel efficiency of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 has everybody talking.
When equipped with the all-new 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel engine, the Chevy Silverado earns an EPA-estimated 33 miles to the gallon on the highway.1 That’s just about what you would earn with a family sedan or crossover SUV. With power-boosting four-wheel drive mode, it is still rated to earn 29 miles to the gallon on the highway.2
The new Chevy Silverado 1500 sacrifices nothing in terms of raw force to achieve this increased efficiency. The turbo-diesel is rated to put out 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. With the 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel and the added four-wheel drive, the new Silverado can tow up to a whopping 9,300 pounds and haul 1,870 pounds when properly equipped.3 These capacities satisfy and exceed what approximately 90 percent of all pickup customers need from their light-duty pickup truck.
The new Duramax® turbo-diesel marks the first time a diesel option has been offered on a light-duty Chevrolet truck since 1997. It is also the very first time Chevy has offered an inline-six engine for full-size light duty trucks.

What are the most American cars? You might be tempted to assume that any brand based in the United States is the “most American,” but that isn’t always the case — unless you’re Chevrolet.
Based on the latest results from Cars.com’s 2019 American-Made Index, three of the most American cars are Chevrolet models: the Corvette, Colorado, and Camaro.
“A recent Cars.com survey shows a clear majority of Americans want to purchase a car that contributes substantially to the U.S. economy, but gauging such contributions is no small task,” wrote Cars.com’s Kelsey Mays. “Cars.com has tried to do so since 2006 with the American-Made Index, an annual study that looks at various factors to determine just how homegrown a given car might be.”
Assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Corvette sports car is arguably Chevrolet’s most iconic model. Powered by a 6.2-liter V8, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds — and if you upgrade to the Z06 or the ZR1, the Corvette becomes not just a great American car, but one of the world’s top sports cars.
The Colorado, a popular midsize pickup truck, is assembled in Wentzville, Missouri. If you want strong hauling and towing capability in a smaller package than a full-size truck like the Silverado 1500, the Colorado is a great choice. It’s also a lot of fun off road.
Finally, the Camaro — which was so beloved as Bumblebee in the Transformers film franchise that it got its own movie — is assembled in Lansing, Michigan.

When you think of sports cars, you probably don’t think of the word “affordable.” They’re a symbol of prestige and luxury. However, when the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro debuts, it will be the least-expensive V8-equipped muscle car on the market. With an available V8 offered on the LT1 trim for less than what it costs to buy a Mustang with a similar V8, the Camaro is now the most affordable sports car on the market.
The LT1 trim is new to the Chevy Camaro lineup, but those who have been paying attention may notice its similarity to the entry-level 1LT model. That’s because the LT1 was created when Chevrolet took the 455-hp V8 engine off the Camaro SS and installed it in the 1LT trim. The new LT1 also features styling changes similar to the SS concept as well, like a vented hood, black bowtie emblems, LT1 badges, 20-inch wheels, and an available Technology Package, which comes with an 8-inch Chevrolet Infotainment System touch-screen and a Bose® sound system.
At under $35,000, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 trim will be the most affordable sports car in the industry without skimping on power, thanks to its 3.6-liter V8 cranking out 455 hp. When the latest Camaro arrives, you’ll find it at Buff Whelan Chevrolet.
The 2019 Shanghai Auto Show was the stage for Chevrolet to unveil its resurrected Trailblazer. The Trailblazer hasn’t been in America since 2009 since the Traverse replaced it, and the all-new model doesn’t resemble its previous generations. It’s even better.
The company’s representatives said the new Trailblazer is, “bringing a bold and expressive look to the segment” with a “character all its own.” Reviewers have commented that the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer revealed at Auto Shanghai feels like a miniature version of the new Blazer with the same sporty, lean look. Photos show the Trailblazer with 17-inch black wheels; thin, edgy headlamps unlike any previous models; and a “floating roof” design.
Stuart Norris, design director of global Chevrolet compact SUVs, said, “The all-new Trailblazer and Tracker are taking us to the next chapter of Chevrolet SUV design. With their lean muscularity, every member of the Chevrolet SUV family is reinforcing the brand’s focus on performance and capability.”
We’re wondering if the new Trailblazer will be replacing the Chevy Trax in the compact SUV segment. More details of engine specs, technology features, and pricing should be coming soon, and we’re looking forward to learning more.
Check back in with Buff Whelan Chevrolet this fall if you’re interested in the return of the Trailblazer. In the meantime, check out the 2019 Traverse.
Chevrolet owners have a new option available on the myChevrolet app: Vehicle Locate. With Vehicle Locate, Remote Access Plan users can know exactly where their car is at any time.
Vehicle Locate for MyChevrolet app provides the ability to pinpoint your vehicle’s location as well as send text alerts to friends and family when the vehicle arrives or departs a location. Creating a boundary (or geofence) as big as a 20-mile radius or as small as a specific address, up to 10 connected people can know when their loved ones are leaving an area or arriving soon. Forget the “I’m headed home now” text. Vehicle Locate sends the alert automatically as soon as the driver pulls out from work.
There are other advantages to the new app update:
- Parents can know when their kids arrive or depart school.
- Know a loved one is safe if they’re traveling through a storm instead of texting them while they drive.
- Know where the vehicle is if lending to a friend.
- Stay safe on blind dates by letting friends know when they’ve left the restaurant.
- Keep updated with loved ones who travel for work.
This function is available on Chevrolet models 2012 and newer in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. For more information on the MyChevrolet app, contact Buff Whelan Chevrolet.
It’s officially December, which means the holidays are here. Christmas is right around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll observe the merry holiday this season. Here at Buff Whelan Chevrolet, we are prone to liking vehicle-related activities, so we came up with this list of car-themed ways to celebrate the holidays:
- Take a holiday road trip: Pack up the car and hit the road. The holidays are the perfect time to go see family and friends you don’t get to see very often. Whether it’s a short trip to a nearby city or a cross-country trip to distant relatives, you will love the destination — and likely the drive to and from.
- Drive through a light display: Most major cities offer several holiday light displays, many of which are drive-through displays. Blast your favorite Christmas music as you ooh and ahh at the lights with your family. If there are no displays nearby, just drive around residential areas to see the lights put up by everyday people.
- Decorate your car: Get festive with your car this holiday season, perhaps with a red Rudolph nose up front or your favorite ornament hanging from your rearview mirror.
Thinking of the perfect gift for Christmas? Stop by and see us at Buff Whelan Chevrolet to see if we have the perfect car for that special someone in your life.
Although it seems like the advent of SUVs and crossovers has completely overtaken vans as the preferred family vehicle, vans aren’t leaving without putting up a fight. Nothing highlights this as much as the new Chevy Orlando, which just launched in China. Although it won’t be released in the states, the Orlando shows the world that vans can be just as stylish and innovative as their SUV counterparts.
Not only does the Chevy Orlando include a spacious cabin with seating for up seven, lots of cargo room, and plenty of convenient details, but it also looks modern and sophisticated while doing so. The Orlando Redline version, for example, uses the FNR-X concept as inspiration to achieve a sporty look. As Scott Lawson, the general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM, stated, “The Orlando and Orlando Redline embody Chevrolet’s spirit of youth, sport and innovation. As one vehicle with multiple capabilities, the Orlando will meet the dynamic needs of consumers who have varied lifestyles and require a vehicle that can adjust to their everyday demands.” The Orlando excels across the board, providing a functional vehicle to families without sacrificing technology and convenience.
While we’re a bit disappointed that the Chevy Orlando won’t be released in the states, it’s a hopeful promise of what’s to come in future passenger vehicles from the brand. For more Chevy news, contact us at Buff Whelan Chevrolet.
The Chevrolet Colorado, much like the Silverado, is getting a new design for the 2019 model year. The new Colorado boasts some exciting modifications, including a new grille design, which allows drivers to add more customization to their trucks. If you’re looking for a sporty model with personalized options, check out the 2019 Colorado.
One of the most exciting new Chevy Colorado grille options includes a lettered grille that spells out “Chevrolet,” using a cut-out design over a mesh-like background. This design seems subtle at first glance, but it completely revamps the look of the front fascia. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 AEV concept vehicle also has a new grille, one that’s similar to the lettered grille.
While the ZR2 AEV concept vehicle may not be available to mainstream buyers in the near future, the standard Chevrolet Colorado will come with the exciting new grille option for $475 on the 2019 model .
There’s also a new body-colored grille option on the Chevy Colorado, which adds a touch of sophistication to the exterior. The grille is just one of the features the brand is elevating on the 2019 Chevy Colorado.
Stop by Buff Whelan Chevrolet to witness the stylish grille update on the 2019 Colorado. We can also set you up with a test-drive, so you can channel this model’s brawny capability.
Chevrolet partnered with DoSomething.org recently to start the “Brake it Down” campaign, a project that aims to help young people learn to be better drivers. With educational resources and prizes in the form of scholarships, the “Brake it Down” campaign is geared towards educating beginner drivers to help them understand the importance of driving safety.
The two companies recruited “Gotham” star David Mazouz to help initiate and promote the campaign. Mazouz plays Batman, or Bruce Wayne, in the hit Fox television series. He filmed a short video to demonstrate the variety of bad drivers on the road. Mazouz also portrays distracting passengers, including those who talk too much or sing.
Until September 15, young drivers around the nation can take a Brake it Down quiz by texting “BRAKE” to the number 38383. This will help them learn about various driving habits, especially how you can more safely drive with friends in the car. For those who participate, they can be entered to win a $5,000 scholarship to help pay for school.
This is just one more way that Chevy gives back to the community. Contact us at Buff Whelan Chevrolet to learn more about the brand’s other charitable initiatives. We can also set you up with a test-drive of your favorite Chevy.
There’s no doubt about it — plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are growing in popularity quicker than ever before. Already one of the most popular PHEV on the road, the 2019 Chevrolet Volt adds a number of impressive improvements that elaborate on the vehicle’s current amenities. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to get a more efficient car, the 2019 Volt makes it harder to wait any longer.
Upgraded regenerative braking
The 2019 Volt will also see significant improvements to the brake regeneration system. The result will be stronger deceleration using either the Low or Regen on Demand modes.
Enhanced infotainment display
The 2019 Chevrolet Volt features an improved 8-inch touch screen infotainment display. Most notably, this advanced system will not include a new Energy app, allowing drivers to more closely monitor fuel efficiency.
Faster charging time
The Volt already has the best all-electric range of any PHEV in the U.S. market. The 2019 Volt will make all-electric driving even more viable by cutting charging time in half from previous model years. Equipped with an improved 7.2-kW onboard charger, the 2019 Volt will achieve a full charge in just under 2 hours and 20 minutes.
