What are the most American cars? You might be tempted to assume that any brand based in the United States is the “most American,” but that isn’t always the case — unless you’re Chevrolet.
Based on the latest results from Cars.com’s 2019 American-Made Index, three of the most American cars are Chevrolet models: the Corvette, Colorado, and Camaro.
“A recent Cars.com survey shows a clear majority of Americans want to purchase a car that contributes substantially to the U.S. economy, but gauging such contributions is no small task,” wrote Cars.com’s Kelsey Mays. “Cars.com has tried to do so since 2006 with the American-Made Index, an annual study that looks at various factors to determine just how homegrown a given car might be.”
Assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Corvette sports car is arguably Chevrolet’s most iconic model. Powered by a 6.2-liter V8, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds — and if you upgrade to the Z06 or the ZR1, the Corvette becomes not just a great American car, but one of the world’s top sports cars.
The Colorado, a popular midsize pickup truck, is assembled in Wentzville, Missouri. If you want strong hauling and towing capability in a smaller package than a full-size truck like the Silverado 1500, the Colorado is a great choice. It’s also a lot of fun off road.
Finally, the Camaro — which was so beloved as Bumblebee in the Transformers film franchise that it got its own movie — is assembled in Lansing, Michigan.
